Tokoname ware, also known as Tokoname-yaki, is a type of Japanese pottery that originated in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture in central Japan. It is one of Japan’s oldest and most renowned ceramic traditions, dating back over 1,000 years.

Present day Tokoname is known for its production of the Kyusu teapot. The clay found in Tokoname is iron rich, has a distinctive red hue and is recognised for its heat retention and porous qualities. Each piece of Tokoname ware embodies the wabi-sabi concept of finding beauty in imperfection and nature.
